time fraud

This is the shortened form of timesheet fraud which is the deliberate filling out of a timesheet with incorrect details of work breaks and arrival and departure times.  This is also called time theft although that is a broader term covering any attempt to take time off from work as by arriving late or leaving early or ducking out for a while or spending a long time in the toilet, spending time on your phone or on the computer doing your own stuff rather than work (otherwise known as cyberloafing).  All these things can happen whether or not they are recorded in a timesheet, but once that happens it becomes fraud.  Employers point to the break-up of rigid work practices during Covid for the increasing instances of time fraud but it is also part of the discussion about neo-Taylorism and increased workplace surveillance.
