bardcore

This is a new (well — comparatively new) genre of music in which contemporary popular music is arranged in a medieval style.  One of the exponents is Hildegard of Blingin’, a name that I love.  I cannot imagine what Hildegard von Bingen might have thought.  Bardcore dates back to pandemic lockdown days and so originally appeared on YouTube but has expanded post-pandemic.  The music is in medieval style and the lyrics are rewritten to sound medieval, as in I, Beedle the Bardcore doth love to party. Lots of thees and -eths.  Bardcore aspires to make use of the tropes of medieval music and at the same time appeal to a modern taste.  Part of the success in doing that is in making use of modern tunes.  And while it may have begun as a parody it is now quite serious in intent.
