Every aspiring American president wants to hook up to popular culture by way of music as a way of gathering votes.  In the case of Kamala Harris the hook has been offered to her by Charli XCX, a British singer/songwriter (who divides her time between London and the US).  Add almost any word to pop (dance pop, synth pop, punk pop, club pop, hyper pop) and you have Charli’s music.  She springs from British 90s pop with models such as the Spice Girls and Britney Spears.  Her latest album, hugely successful, is called Brat and is said to be about messiness and vulnerability and being authentic.  Her professional name comes from the MSN Messenger display name that she used in her youth.  Charli has tweeted that Kamala Harris IS brat!  What better endorsement could you have as a politician.

This alongside the meme of the coconut tree is enthusing a brat following.  The coconut tree comes from a story that Kamala told about her mother while making the point that no one exists in isolation, we are all dependent on a community.  Her mother used to say ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people, you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’
