obituary pirate

Generative AI is being used to churn out text in all sorts of contexts but this is a very strange one.  It is now possible to ask your chatbot to produce an obituary from the information about someone to be found on the internet.  In the past obituaries were written for people who were dead (although possibly prepared beforehand while they were still alive).  But this limitation on the provision of interesting material has been removed and we are now being given obituaries of people who are still alive. Not even a tiny bit sick.

The point of the exercise is to take advantage of search interest online in a particular person, thus drawing internet viewers of the obit to your site.  What could be more interesting than finding out that someone well-known has died! If your website receives enough clicks you can then sell space to advertisers.

Obituary piracy is often shortened to obit piracy, as obituary pirate is shortened to obit pirate.
