agrihood

This is a neighbourhood which has a farm or community garden at the heart of it, so that people can produce their own food in close proximity to where they live.  Often community gardens are tucked away on an available patch of land and the residents in the community travel to the garden.  The agrihood is a residential area planned to give everyone easy access to the garden or farm. Combine this with the growing interest we all have in knowing where our food is coming from and the desire to be convinced that it is ecologically sound and you have a boom in a new style of development.  It is an idea that started in the U.S. but Australia will have its own agrihood in Far North Queensland soon.
