Surface Web

I was familiar with the Dark Web and the Deep Web but I had not heard of the Surface Web.  This term has been derived as the opposite of the Deep Web. There is another term Clearnet which is the opposite of the Dark Web.  In fact there seem to have been many attempts to create a name for the internet that most of use most of our days.  There is the Visible Web, the Indexed Web, the Indexable Web, and Lightnet.

The Deep Web is that form of the internet which can only be accessed by going to specific sites where information is held.  This data is not indexed and so not available to a search engine.  The Dark Web is even more remote.  It is part of the Internet where a specific browser is needed and anonymity is crucial. It is therefore home to a number of criminal activities.  By contrast the Surface Web or Clearnet is upfront and easily searchable, and the users are identifiable by an IP address.  It is the mainstream internet.
