low-quality meme

It is interesting how style in both text and images online has evolved.  In text we have reached the point of arguing whether a full stop is offensive or not, having the power to imply an angry rebuke.  The lack of the full stop is friendly, casual, off-the-cuff, relaxed.  In the same way a grainy low-resolution image implies that the content of the message — the joke in the meme is more important than the artwork. It is the visual equivalent of swift repartee in speech. It is effortless and playful and seemingly more authentic than something that is highly crafted.  Low-quality memes appeal to the older generation as well (so they are sometimes referred to as boomer memes), and this is something that those working on political advertising campaigns have used to their advantage. Not only is the low-quality meme appealing but it is possible to dash them off at great speed.  Be prepared for the avalanche in the next election.
