mandatory jab

This is the vaccination that you are required to have as part of your job.  Employers have been saying that they cannot legally force their staff to get vaccinated.  Only the federal government has the power to make it mandatory.  In response the Fair Work Ombudsman has provided advice, outlining a four-tier system that tells employers what they can ask for in what circumstances.  Tier 1 comprises people in occupations where there is a high degree of risk of infection, such as border control or hotel quarantine employees.  Tier 2  comprises those in occupations where they care for vulnerable people, such as the elderly or people with disabilities.  Tier 3 comprises people who regularly interact with others, such as shop workers, hospitality workers, etc. And Tier 4 comprises those who do not have reason to interact with others, such as people who work from home.

It seems likely that it will be legal to demand vaccination from Tier 1 and Tier 2 employees.

The situation is not clear, however, and employers are advised to get their own legal advice.  The government has some members opposed to mandatory vaccination. The most that Morrison has said is that it seems that such a request to employees might be legal if the employer can show that it is ‘reasonable’.
