pandemic leave
One of the problems that emerged during the Rona was the plight of people working in aged-care homes, and of medical staff in hospitals and Covid testing centres, who, despite feeling unwell, continued to go to work because they couldn’t afford not to. Pandemic leave is a kind of sick leave that allows you to stay at home at the first sign of illness and self-isolate for two weeks while still being paid.
There is a provision added to a number of awards that also allows for the possibility of taking unpaid pandemic leave so that at least people can self-isolate knowing that they are covered and they have a job to come back to.
The terms used by governments and other authorities are pandemic leave or COVID-19 leave but the general public simply calls it COVID leave.
