During the lockdown in Victoria, the residents of Melbourne were not allowed to travel into regional Victoria. There were various checkpoints where travellers were stopped and sent back if they had no valid reason for crossing the line.  There were heavy fines imposed on those who broke the travel ban. This whole set-up was referred to as the ring of steel.  It was a huge relief for all when Melburnians were allowed to enter regional Victoria again. As the Premier, Daniel Andrews said, the lifting of the travel ban would make Victoria ‘one state again’.
