fiano
This is an Italian white wine grape variety with a long history. It was thought to be in the wine made by the Romans and called Apianum (loved by the bees). The grape vine is native to Campania, a region in southern Italy near Naples. The grapes of this vine have a strong flavour but the yield is not high so it has been neglected for centuries. But now it is coming into its own as a distinctive varietal wine, and has been introduced into a number of winegrowing regions in Australia. If you can manage the slow rate of production, the resulting wine, with its distinctive intense flavour is your reward.
