period poverty

This is the name given to the  povety experienced by women and girls who are unable to access resources during their menstruation period, because of lack of finances or lack of facilities provided at schools and workplaces. As a result they are unable to carry out their normal activities during that time and so to fully develop their potential.  There is now a global movement to ensure that women and girls do not suffer deprivation and ostracism because of their menstrual cycles.  It is not just a matter of providing sanitary products but of adjusting schools and workplaces and changing attitudes to ensure that there is no discrimination based on what should be considered a normal part of life.
