bring to heal

I was surprised to read in the ABC Online News that Trump saw himself as a leader who was bringing errant nations in NATO to heal.  This was an error that was quietly corrected within an hour or so.

It made me wonder how far this confusion had spread. Presumably those of us who are not into training a dog have no idea where the expression bring to heel comes from and are thus capable of opting for heal instead.

I can report, with some relief, that while it is out there on the internet, it is not common, and most people would still regard it as an error. Let’s hope it stays that way.
