rage ritual

The rage room is still a relatively recent discovery but this is for a general catharsis and is for everyone.  You can feel a lot better after you have thrown crockery at the wall and smashed up a few things, it seems.  It’s fun to let go.

The rage ritual is specifically for women and part of wellness programs that have linked up to psychotherapy.  Remember the primal scream therapy of the 1970s?  John and Yoko were very much into it.  The argument is that women are brought up in a society that demands that they never lose their tempers, show rage, flout the conventions of respect and modesty by objecting strenuously to the treatment dished out to them.  They suppress a lot of anger, so the rage ritual allows them to express these feelings and gain a sense of release.  They choose a site well away from others where they are encouraged to think of every hurtful experience, everyone who ignored them, abused them, made them feel like lesser beings, and then they can scream, cry, and bang the ground with sticks until they reach exhaustion.

And then they feel better!
