clout chaser
Because I don’t live on TikTok and social media, I am behind the times with this one. It has been around since 2016 but just surfaced in mainstream media in Sydney because the man accused of murdering Jesse Baird and his partner was described as an ex-boyfriend and a clout chaser. A moment’s research revealed that he has spent many years chasing celebrities of all sorts, managing to snatch pictures of himself close to them, with or without their knowledge and agreement, in order to raise his own social profile. His relationship with Baird stemmed from the fact that Baird was a TV personality on Channel 10.
A clout chaser can also be described as a clout leech. Clout chasing is regarded as pretty despicable once the inauthenticity of the celebrity contact is revealed.
