red teamer

AI is now able to create video from text instructions although, as usual, the result has to be checked.  Occasionally the software gets it wrong and the requested dog in the street suddenly morphs into four dogs.  The people who check the product of AI are called red teamers.

The red team goes back to the 1960s America where at the height of the Cold War it was thought useful to play war games to test military strategies.  The red team was Russia and the blue team America.  Later the testing was generalised to business and government institutions, to test both their physical and digital defences, and still later the red teamers became a specialised unit to test the cybersecurity managed by the blue team (employees responsible for defending an organisation’s networks and data).

Initially the red team attack was made known in advance but later it was thought a better test to let the red team go in unannounced.  Keep the employees on their toes.
