directed energy weapons

The first of these was the laser gun but, now that we have other kinds of weapons that rely on directed energy, we need an all-encompassing term for all weapons that damage or destroy a target using highly focused energy alone. No bullets, no missiles, no bombs.  I have mentioned the laser gun but there are also particle beams, sound beams and microwaves.   Some are intended to hit targets, others to disrupt systems such as guidance systems or computer memories.  The anti-drone gun was covered in New Words in January. The plasma gun is still being developed.
