romantasy
The genres and subgenres that appear in our bookshops today never cease to amaze me. Mills and Boon-style romance has always been a big seller but fantasy seems to dominate everything at the moment. So why not combine the two and have romance fantasy, otherwise known as romantasy, a subgenre of fantasy which features a romantic relationship as well as the creation of a fantasy world and a plot that at some point should engage the romantic pair in some way.
This should not be confused with fantasy romance, a subgenre of romance in which the traditional romance takes place in a fantasy world, but it is the romance that remains the focus of the book.
