smart sea mine

This is the latest version of a very old military weapon. Instead of blowing up everything that comes its way, this mine is smart enough to distinguish between a military vessel and a merchant vessel.  It does this by evaluating its magnetic, acoustic, pressure, and seismic influences.  If it finds a match with what it has been programmed to see as a target it then either releases a torpedo or just detonates.  This allows normal shipping to carry on in waters where the smart sea mines are laid.

Smart sea mines can be dropped from an aeroplane, a ship or a submarine and set to become active after a predetermined time. They can be quickly programmed to identify a new target as required by providing them with a new acoustic signature.  They can be programmed to ignore all surface vessels entirely and focus on submarines. And they can be programmed to disarm themselves. So they are extremely flexible.
