anti-drone gun

This is often shortened to drone gun. The device is new so it may take some time for the name to become established. It is a handheld electromagnetic pulse weapon which jams the communication signals of a targeted drone and can bring it down or force it to return to base or make an emergency landing.

Initially it was produced to deal with privacy concerns and bring down drones which were flying where they shouldn’t, but other uses were quickly found for it. Prison officers used it to prevent contraband goods being delivered to prisoners. It was used in Brazil as suspicious drones advanced towards the new president, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, at his inauguration. And now it has found its way to Ukraine where a drone war is being waged.

But the success of the drone gun may be short-lived as drones are refitted with technology to negate its radio-frequency signals.
