mummy juice
This is a jokey name for the glass of wine or whatever alcoholic drink it is that Mummy has at the end of a long day of childminding, playing on the idea that, just as the children have their juice, Mummy has special Mummy juice. It is akin to the office worker’s wine o’clock. There is evidence that increasingly women are drinking more and are now comparable in their drinking habits to men. Experts say that jokes such as this tend to normalise drinking habits and make it easier to slip into heavy drinking and perhaps alcoholism.
A search on mummy juice also reveals that there are people who are desperate to get a bit of the red liquid that collected in a 2000-year-old sarcophagus found in Alexandria. They believe that this mummy juice comes from decomposing mummies and has special powers. Perhaps this is the mummy juice that our exhausted mothers need.
