eshay

This is thought to be pig Latin derived from session, often shortened to sesh, and referring to a prolonged period of consuming alcoholic drinks, smoking pot, or gaming. An eshay adlay is a sesh lad, one of the guys who is up for a sesh.  It is amazing how pig Latin endures as an easy code for obscuring communications.

An eshay can be the person or the style which is a mix of fondness for a bit of working-class brawling combined with flaunting designer labels. Eshays wear Nike shoes, designer clothes (featuring polo shirts), wraparound sunglasses and black shoulder bags.  All of this is intended as conspicuous consumption to demonstrate that they are cashed up. Their hairstyle is a form of the mullet with the sides of the head shaved and a bit of length on top.

Originally the eshays were a male youth subculture emerging from low-income housing estates in Sydney and Melbourne.  They were keen to show that they were tough, forming gangs that were involved in drugs, crime and violence.  The style has moved away to something more mainstream as others imitate the look.
