Son of Omicron

What the world is now calling the Son of Omicron, the WHO is calling an Omicron subvariant BA.2, the original Omicron variant being BA.1.  It is not yet considered to be a variant of interest, let alone of concern, but we are all so sensitive to the idea that another variant will come and we will go back to square one that it has attracted at least media attention.  A handful of cases have been detected in Melbourne. It appears that the subvariant has greater transmissibility than Omicron but it does not seem to cause any more severe disease.

The media also has dubbed it the stealth variant because it is not detected by PCR tests.  That may sound alarming but in fact it can still be detected by other tests and by genomic sequencing.
