VLP vaccine

VLP stands for ‘virus-like particle’.  This particle is a molecule that mimics a virus, thus producing the required immune response.  It is perfectly safe because it has no actual viral material in it and is not infectious.  This is a recombinant vaccine which means that it takes bits of protein from cell material from either bacteria, yeasts, mammals or insects to construct a pseudo-virus.  It is quite powerful in terms of immune response. It has been used in the past against diseases such as human papilloma, hepatitis B, and malaria, and now there is a VLP that is being designed to work against COVID-19.
