COVID sommelier

The sommelier is a very special person in a restaurant who has the knowledge and expertise to guide customers through the wine list, recommending particular wines to accompany their choice of food. The sommelier is the head wine steward, trusted with selecting wines for a restaurant and giving advice to its patrons. Now we have the COVID sommelier whose duties are not quite so special. This kind of sommelier stands at the door handing out face masks and hand sanitiser to patrons. They are probably responsible for keeping the count of the number of diners at any one time.  This is the restaurateurs’ attempt at black humour.
