pawternity leave
This is the paid leave that you can have from work to settle in a new puppy into your household. In that first week or two puppies can be demanding of time and affection so some companies have allowed this form of leave so that employees can come back to work satisfied that their puppies have been given a good start. This started with a pet food company in Scandinavia who extended pawternity leave to any employee getting a new pet. The scheme has spread to the U.S., the U.K. and Australia, and cats and dogs are covered. Paws and fur seem to be required to win the right to pawternity leave. I’m not sure that a new snake or turtle or fish would qualify.
