Apparently there is nothing like the anger experienced by a computer gamer who has just been outwitted by the game and killed. In such circumstances gamers simply abandon the game in a fury. It is a phenomenon that is so well recognised that some games incorporate a derogatory response to rage-quitting.
It has taken a little while for the word to generalise to other situations. Rage-quitting was recognised in the mid-2000s and was definitely the accepted term in 2014. But its links to gaming were still strong.
However, you can now rage-quit your job if you feel you have had enough. Or you can rage-quit an interview. There is even advice on how to do it in style.
