soju
Over the past decade we have become much more knowledgeable about Japanese wines. Now it is the Korean rice wine, soju, that is becoming popular. Mind you, I wouldn’t have known about it if it hadn’t been for the news story about the party of five celebrating a birthday over six hours at a soju restaurant. They were served 86 glasses of the drink and left somewhat the worse for wear, with two of them passing out in the street. The alcohol content of the Korean national drink can be as high as %50 so it needs to be treated with caution.
