Looping is a process for automatically regulating insulin delivery from a pump, using an app which reads a glucose level monitor and then adjusts the supply of insulin in accordance with the changing readings.  Diabetics have been living with insulin pumps that have pre-set glucose levels which means that every so often they still experience highs and lows of blood sugar.  The loop suddenly makes their lives run much more smoothly.

 The loop, the app which works alongside the pump and glucose monitor, is a DIY technology which can be built with the help of online manuals, forums and looping parties.  The loop is not approved yet by the regulators, which does not make it illegal but makes it hard for the medical community to support it. Meanwhile people gather for the looping parties which continue to be the workshops for the app build, creating a support community for diabetics along the way.
