fat phobia
This phobia, sometimes spelled fatphobia, is, very simply, the fear of being fat. You can have an aversion to the fat bodies of other people or to your own. You can have a morbid fear of becoming fat, as in anorexia. The more that being overweight is a problem for us, the more fat phobias there will be. Telling people that they should not be overweight is not quite as simple as telling them, for example, to stop smoking, because they can perceive this directive against obesity as an attack on their body shape and image. This produces a frame of mind in which fat people have very negative thoughts about themselves, and this is actually not helpful. Such an attitude spiralling into obsession and depression can reach a point where it is classified as a phobia.
