abortion doula

We have talked about the extension of the doula’s work from looking after women in childbirth to helping those who are on the path to death.  Now we have the abortion doula who assists a woman who is having a termination. The assistance is of a general nature and, while it might include information about the procedure if the patient wishes to know all the details, it is mostly just being there for them and providing emotional and sometimes physical support.  The first organisation for abortion doulas was created in New York in 2007, but Australia is just catching up with the idea.
