seasteading
This is the creation of permanent ocean homes, ultimately reaching the goal of ocean cities. There are two dominant ideas in this. There is the notion of living in harmony with the environment, but there is also the notion of living unfettered by any government. The sea outside territorial waters is up for grabs. Live there and you are not beholden to any government rules and regulations. This is why the Thai government recently took a dim view of a seastead parked just outside their jurisdiction.
The seasteaders claim that they will develop entrepreneurial activities that will unleash the Blue Economy. According to their website, they will ‘enrich the poor, cure the sick, feed the hungry, clean the atmosphere, live in balance with nature, power the world and live in peace’. The proponents of this future are called seavangelists.
