IN the year of Mee-Tooism we have become much more aware of the grey area between sexual flirtation and predatory sexual behaviour.  Thus the creation of the consent guardian, a person employed by a nightclub, bar or dance venue to oversee what is happening, and to be there to help someone who is feeling threatened in any way. Anyone of any gender.

 The consent guardian is sometimes described as a consenticorn because in some nightclubs where fancy dress is required, it was thought to be more friendly for the guardians to dress as unicorns. Their light-up horns act as a beacon for anyone in trouble. The name has been generalised.

 Not everyone is enthused about the idea of consent guardians monitoring everyone’s behaviour.  What is allowable flirting and what is aggressive pursuit of a quarry is still open to interpretation.
