flight shame
This is the sense of guilt that some of us have now in relation to our air travel, an activity that is one of the greatest contributors to greenhouse emissions. There is a movement in Europe which is encouraging people to rethink their travel and go by train rather than by plane. This is having some impact.
The airlines have had the option of undertaking carbon offsets and asking their passengers to pay a tax to do this. As a means of assuaging guilt it has been moderately effective, but climate activists are saying that it is not nearly enough. Sir David Attenborough has argued that if an airline ticket included the cost to the environment in it, then it would rise considerably. And that the airline companies should increase the price to reflect this reality.
Angus Taylor seems to have come unstuck in his efforts to flight-shame Clover Moore.
