screen time

This used to mean the amount of time that an actor was given on screen from which various things could be deduced about the attitude that Hollywood had to certain individuals or groups. Conversely it could show that a really good performance could win acclaim even if the actor had the briefest amount of screen time in which to give it.

But now an additional meaning has emerged. Screen time is the time we spend in front of a device with a screen, such as a television, a computer, an ipad, a smartphone, or a video game console.   Racking up a lot of screen time is not good, and can be shown to be related to obesity, poor general health, and depression.
