plogging

This began as a Swedish activity but has gone around the world.   Plogging is the combination of jogging with picking up litter. The Swedish plocka upp means  ‘to pick up’. This blended with English jogging gives us plogging.

Joggers could always feel virtuous about their exercise routine, but as ploggers they can feel doubly virtuous because they are getting fit and tidying up the planet at the same time.  My feeling about dedicated joggers is, however, that nothing will distract them from pounding down the pavement, not even a delectable piece of garbage offering the prospect of environmental virtue. And where would they put it? Carrying a plastic bag would disrupt their jogging rhythm. And would you really accessorise lycra and sweat bands with a garbage bag?
